I’ve been dreaming of shooting an engagement session at Fisherman’s Wharf for a long time. This one turned out to be everything I hoped it would be and more.

Right away, Kassandruh and Rob brought the love, the laughter, and the kind of natural connection that makes a session like this genuinely unforgettable. We wandered through some of my favorite spots along the Wharf, places I’ve scouted dozens of times over the years. I knew exactly how to make the most of the light, the movement, and the energy of this iconic San Francisco location.

One of my favorite things to do at the Wharf is grab some clam chowder and sip a Biscoff coffee. Then I like to walk the waterfront, just soaking it all in. This time, I got to share that same experience with a couple who were fully present with each other. They were completely down for the adventure, which made it exactly the kind of session I love most

The Photo Booth at Musée Mécanique

One shot I had in mind going into this session was at Musée Mécanique, the antique arcade tucked into Pier 45. What I really wanted was to capture Kassandruh and Rob sharing a moment in the photo booth while the world moved around them in a blur. It took a little finessing to time it right. But once we nailed it, it became one of my favorite shots from the entire session. Afterward, we grabbed a few more playful arcade shots. After all, when you’re standing in one of San Francisco’s best vintage arcades, you have to.

Alcatraz Views and a Surprise Proposal

The light along the waterfront was stunning. So I couldn’t resist framing a few shots with Alcatraz Island in the distance from Pier 41. Right as we were shooting, the sea lions started barking. One of them was sunbathing in a pose Rob immediately pointed out as exactly how he feels sometimes. Naturally, we got the shot.

That’s when the session turned into something extra special. As we were lining up a few shots with the SkyStar Wheel and the North Beach neighborhood behind them, Rob leaned in. He told me quietly that he was about to propose. Kassandruh had already proposed to him earlier in their relationship, and he wanted to return the favor. I gave him the signal, framed everything up, and captured a moment of pure joy.

Carousel Romance and Sunset Magic

Next, we continued on to Pier 39. I had already coordinated with the carousel staff to make sure we could shoot there. After a quick outfit change and a short walk, we arrived to find the place nearly empty. It felt like we had our own private fairytale.

Kassandruh and Rob embraced and laughed in front of the glowing carousel lights while I captured the moment as it unfolded naturally. It was cinematic, romantic, and genuinely one of the most fun parts of the entire shoot.

As we made our way back toward the parking lot, the sun dipped below the horizon, and the sky lit up completely. I stopped for one last round of portraits with the SkyStar Wheel and the glowing Pier 43 Ferry Arch behind them. It was the perfect way to close out a session that reminded me exactly why I do this.
