Your engagement session is an exciting step—a chance to celebrate your love, capture your connection, and create images that tell your unique story before the big day. As a Northern California engagement photographer, I’ve guided couples through this experience many times. I know how special—and sometimes a little nerve-wracking—it can be.
Whether this is your first time in front of a camera or you want to feel more prepared, here’s everything you need to know to feel relaxed, confident, and ready for your engagement shoot.
First off—don’t worry about feeling “posed” or stiff. My goal is to keep the session natural and fun. We’ll start with simple prompts, like walking hand-in-hand or sharing a quiet moment. From there, the magic happens as you relax and interact.
You might find yourself laughing at a silly joke, stealing glances, or simply soaking in the moment—and those are exactly the real, genuine shots I love to capture.
We’ll play with light and locations to find the best backdrop for your vibe. Whether that’s a forest bathed in golden afternoon sun, a windswept beach, or a charming downtown street, your photos will feel authentic and alive.
Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. Coordinating colors without being too matchy-matchy works best. Think about textures and layers — they add depth and interest to your photos.
Northern California can surprise you — from foggy mornings to warm afternoons. Check the forecast and bring layers or accessories that fit the vibe. If we’re shooting near water or in the woods, consider shoes that are easy to walk in.
Sometimes couples bring meaningful items — a favorite blanket, a guitar, or even their dog. These little touches can add personality and make your session feel more like “you.”
It’s normal to feel a bit nervous or unsure, especially if you haven’t been photographed much before. However, the best photos come when you forget about the camera and focus on each other.
I’ll guide you through poses and prompts but also capture spontaneous moments—a whispered joke, a forehead kiss, or a shared smile that says everything.
Remember, this session is about celebrating your love and having fun together. The more you relax, the more your true personalities will shine through.
Once the shoot wraps up, I’ll carefully edit your photos, balancing color and light to bring out the best in every image. Afterward, I invite you to a private reveal experience — a cozy, relaxed moment where you get to see your photos for the first time.
From there, I’ll help you choose prints, albums, or digital collections that turn your engagement session into beautiful keepsakes you’ll treasure forever.
Your engagement session is more than just a photoshoot — it’s a chance to slow down, connect, and create memories that last. So, if you’re ready to start planning your Northern California engagement session, I’d love to chat and help make your vision come to life.
Let’s capture your story — one genuine smile, one light-filled moment at a time.
