There’s a reason I keep coming back to Northern California with my camera in hand. From the hush of ancient redwoods to the wild crash of waves along the coast, this place feels like it was made for love stories.
I’ve had the chance to photograph couples in deep forests, on windy beaches, and in golden, wide-open spaces—and each one brings its own kind of magic. There’s no cookie-cutter experience here. Every session feels different. Personal. Like its own little adventure.
And that’s why I love it. NorCal isn’t just where I work—it’s part of the story I get to help tell.
If you’ve ever stood beneath redwoods and just paused—you know. That hush. That soft, filtered light. The quiet crunch of pine needles under your feet. It does something to you.
There’s something sacred about it…
As a redwoods wedding photographer, I’ve seen how being in these forests allows couples to just breathe and slow down. There’s no pressure out there. Just space to connect, laugh, hold each other close.
Whether we’re wandering through Muir Woods, Big Basin, or a quiet hidden grove I’ve scouted off-trail, the feeling is the same—grounded, intimate, timeless. The redwoods don’t rush. And out there, neither do we.
On the flip side, the NorCal coastline has its own energy—loose, wild, and so alive. The salty air, wind in your hair, sand between your toes. It’s messy in the best way.
Some of my favorite California beach engagement sessions have happened in unexpected weather—foggy mornings in Mendocino, or when the light just pours over the cliffs in Half Moon Bay during golden hour.
There’s something about the ocean that opens people up. Maybe it’s the space, or just the freedom of tossing your shoes and running into the waves.I’ll never forget a couple who danced barefoot at the edge of the tide, no music, just the surf in the background. It was one of those moments where I didn’t have to direct a thing. They were just there, present, playful, completely themselves.
The cool thing is, you don’t have to pick just one vibe. Forest or beach? Why not both? One of the best things about Northern California is how close these landscapes are. You can literally start in the trees and end the day on the cliffs.
I love working with couples to plan hybrid sessions that show the full range of their connection. Want to start your shoot with a hike through the redwoods and wrap up barefoot in the sand? I’m in.
You don’t have to be “perfect” or overly posed either. I’ll give you gentle direction, but what I’m really looking for are those in-between moments—the wind catching your hair, a mid-hike laugh, the look you give each other when no one else is around.
After your session, I don’t just send over a gallery and call it a day. One of my favorite parts of the process is what comes after—the private reveal experience.
We’ll sit down together and go through the photos for the first time, reliving the story you just lived. Then I’ll walk you through the design process to create something tangible—an album, prints, or wall art that holds the emotion of the day in your hands.
Because these images? They’re not meant to live on a screen. They’re meant to be held, passed around, and revisited on the days you need to feel it all again.
If you’re dreaming of a forest engagement session in NorCal, looking for a redwoods wedding photographer, or imagining a California beach engagement full of wind, waves, and wonder—I’d love to be part of that story.
Let’s wander cliffs, chase light, hike a trail, and make something honest and beautiful—wherever your love wants to take us.
